AyA Whitepaper Released

On April 1st, World Mobile released the first version of their AyA Whitepaper. The Whitepaper outlines World Mobile’s hybrid Layer-2 solution which consists of a highly decentralised and secure Financial Settlement Layer, a Trust Layer, and a scalable and competitive Telecommunications Settlement Layer, known as “AyA”.

The AyA node is present in the software of an EarthNode, allowing EarthNode Operators (ENOs) to offer their resources to provide infrastructure for value-added services and communications. Customers keep their financial assets on the Financial Settlement Layer, and delegators hold World Mobile Tokens (WMTs) and stake them to one or more EarthNodes. The AyA consensus mechanism is used by validator nodes inside the EarthNodes to reach agreement and achieve finality, and the AyA Committee is a rotating and randomly-selected subset of all the EarthNodes that operate the trustless interface to the Layer-1 chains in the system.

The whitepaper has introduced several new concepts and components surrounding the new World Mobile Chain (WMC) which include Stake Injection and Light Clients which receives messages from the mainchain, and is connected to a Cardano-Node to listen to events and look up historical mainchain data.

The AyA Whitepaper is available via this link, however, please note that it is a work in progress and is iterative.

Public Testnet “Aya” now live

World Mobile have accelerated the roll out of testnet by onboarding more EarthNode Operators to public testnet “aya_preview_501”. It’s still being deployed in progressive iterations with more and more ENO’s being invited as testing advances.

The current Testnet status includes:

  • EarthNode Non-fungible Tokens (ENNFTs), which can be claimed by the EarthNode Operators and stored in their wallet to allow them to connect to the Aya testnet and register as a validator
  • Installation script that allows our first EarthNode Operators to create their account, set up an EarthNode, connect to the Aya testnet, and register as a validator
  • Basic infrastructure to support rudimental cross-chain interactions
  • Grafana dashboards to allow EarthNode Operators to monitor their EarthNode

A Testnet whitepaper will be available soon and World Mobile will introduce mainnet after the testnet has been proven to be stable and fully functioning.

For more details on the steps of how Earth Node Operators are being onboarded, please see the recent World Mobile blog post “Introducing the Aya testnet“.

World Mobile Releases Roadmap 2.0

As 2022 begins winding down, World Mobile is ramping up and has released an updated roadmap focusing on the next few quarters. It includes details on the current rollout, the mobile application, plus timeframes on Earth Node and Air Node operations.

More specifically, we’ll see an Earth Node Testnet by end of the year plus distribution of EN NFTs to all Earth Node owners. We’ll then see Mainnet launch in Q1 2023.

As the rollout continues into 2023, World Mobile will have it’s first paying customers in Tanzania which will set the stage to having more paying customers in a second African country. This means a second aerostat launch and implementation of fiat on-ramp via a payment gateway.

Partnering for healthcare and connectivity in Africa

Africa is one of the world’s largest and most diversified continents, having various cultures and economies. While some African nations have had the good fortune to expand and maintain pace with other continents, others remain hindered in their development due to war or corruption.

Even with modern technology, hundreds of millions of people lack access to basic health records, and medical personnel often aren’t equipped with the necessary tools and technology to assist patients’ health requirements.

Africa is also the least-connected region in the world, with many regions underserved by legacy mobile networks and remote areas remaining unconnected entirely. Internet connectivity is crucial to economic empowerment, the establishment of digital identity, and unlocking the educational and financial opportunities offered by the global marketplace.

The deployment of blockchain-based solutions that solve connectivity and healthcare data management problems in Africa has the potential to drastically improve the lives of people in underconnected or underserved regions. The partnership between World Mobile and Immunify.Life aims to address these issues while creating a synergistic ecosystem of applications that deliver crucial services to these areas.

“World Mobile’s offering of blockchain-powered connectivity and our healthcare data management solution creates room for interesting symbiosis. Since we are both working in developing nations, there are plenty of areas where we can collaborate. This partnership will open doors for mutual support for country implementations where possible.”

— Guy Newing, Immunify.Life Founder

“We are delighted to be partnering with Immunify.Life to help bring healthcare data management solutions that will improve medical outcomes to the regions that need it most. Immunify.Life share our vision for a world where everyone has access to the services and opportunities they deserve, regardless of where they are. Nearly 3 billion people around the world are unconnected, and World Mobile’s mission to provide affordable and efficient connectivity delivers the key to unlocking exciting new opportunities for education, finance, healthcare, and so much more.”

Sign up for AirNode sale alerts

World Mobile is rebooting telecoms by letting anyone own a part of and earn from the World Mobile network. Own your AirNode, rent it out, and get paid for everyone you help connect – it’s as simple as that.

Nearly 3 billion people around the world are unconnected and World Mobile has already helped over 17,000 unique users get connected in their beta network. The next step is to launch aerostats, connect backhaul services, bring mainnet online along with the 1000 Earth Nodes and of course, scale massively with AirNode owners and operators. This is where you come in.

World Mobile already have licenses to operator in 5 countries and have a target of securing another 5 countries by the end of 2022. With total government support in all rollout countries, World Mobile are full steam ahead with development, testing and deployment plans. Mainnet is in production, Earth Node owner/operators are raring to go, but they need AirNode owners to rent out Access Point hardware to locals on the ground in these unconnected countries.

Zanzibar Spice Farm

As you walk through the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, accompanied by chirping birds and humid tropical air, Alice Rukazibwa is there planning what would be her life’s work. Alice is a Tanzanian who currently lives in Zanzibar. She is creating spice farm tours that are accompanied by education centres, where guides and residents can study languages as well as the intricacies of spices. Her journey is one she passionately explains with unbridled excitement while basking in the nature around her. “This is an interesting place, because we have Jozani Forest, we have spice, we have a turtle and butterfly centre all in one area. It could be a big touristic area.”

Alice believes everything is about connection and interconnectedness.

She is eager to share this life with the world. She marvels at the depth of the communal culture that sings to the seeds before they are planted to become spices. Zanzibar, often known as Spice Island, grows nutmeg, vanilla, ginger, and other spices. The production of spices is a significant economic driver on the island on top of a budding tourism industry.

To build locally is to strengthen communities.

“It all has to be local.” Alice is adamant that locally established small and medium-sized businesses are vital to Africa’s economic fabric.

According to the World Bank, more than half of all businesses and jobs are owned and operated by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). And through her entrepreneurial initiative, Alice is well on her way to addressing the demand for education and employment development in her community.

Alice’s teammate, Riziki Hassan Galu shares with a smile, ” … I will be able to help myself so I can be a tour guide just right here at home in Zanzibar”, knowing there is much they would like to say once they have the tools.

Alice emphasises, however, that there is a large gap between the promise of what is possible and what is being accomplished, as she has ambitious aspirations. The absence of internet connectivity has made it difficult for her to move at the pace she prefers: “Where we are, we don’t have any mobile connection at all.”

Today, Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the only national park on the island, is connected to the internet through World Mobile AirNodes, enabling people to access the web and all the opportunities it brings. This connection now enables many individuals, such as Alice, to accelerate their ideas. The internet offers the opportunity to connect with markets, promote ideas, and serve as a learning resource.

World Mobile is a change-making movement built on the power of connectivity and a vision of a world that can serve everyone. The hybrid network and sharing economy drives a model of interconnectedness, as AirNode Owners and Operators earn by connecting others. The rollout of World Mobile technology in Zanzibar is the initial step toward connecting the world’s 2.9 billion unconnected people. Along the way, we encounter individuals like Alice, who generate employment, build local economies, radiate creativity, and provide a wealth of knowledge to the world wide web.

Watch Alice explain the power of connection in Zanzibar in the video below.
