world mobile token buyback

WM starts token buyback program

World Mobile has launched a token buyback program as part of its mission to establish a sustainable sharing economy. The program involves World Mobile’s treasury purchasing World Mobile Tokens (WMT) from the open market using revenue generated from commercial services.

The bought-back tokens will be redistributed as rewards, supporting the growth of the sharing economy and enhancing the stability and utility of the overall ecosystem. The first token buyback took place on May 29, 2023, and future buybacks will occur at random intervals to maintain the integrity of the World Mobile Chain. The program aims to support the sharing economy, build a sustainable ecosystem, and align with World Mobile’s global expansion plans.

As World Mobile expands its services, the value and frequency of token buybacks will increase, further strengthening the ecosystem and benefiting participants. The token buyback program is a key component of World Mobile’s vision for an inclusive and sustainable mobile ecosystem.

Closed Beta of World Mobile App launched

World Mobile has released the Early Access version of its global app on the Google Play Store, and we’re happy to announce that we are one of the early beta testers!

This marks the beginning of “Mission Two”, where a limited number World Mobile Users have been invited to download and test the app. The company is eager to receive feedback from its community beta testers in the coming weeks, so we’ve been putting the app through it’s paces, testing everything from creating a self-sovereign account, to purchasing WMT via the Crypto Wallet, transferring crypto to and from the app, and using the exciting scan-to-earn feature.

We look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Pakistan Deployment

World Mobile has announced its plans to deploy its network in Pakistan. This expansion follows the successful deployment of their network in Zanzibar, and World Mobile aims to replicate that success by adopting a similar approach in Pakistan. The initial phase of the rollout involves the deployment of four AirNodes, with a full commercial network set to launch soon.

This move marks World Mobile’s first commercial deployment outside of Africa and is seen as a strategic and important step for the company. Pakistan, with a population of over 220 million, has been making efforts to achieve rapid economic growth and improve living standards for its citizens. However, despite significant progress in mobile connectivity, there remains a usage gap, with only 10% of the population subscribing to mobile internet services.

World Mobile’s hybrid connectivity solution offers not only affordable connectivity but also the potential to support economic development in Pakistan. With the average monthly income in the country estimated at around $150, hosting World Mobile’s AirNodes presents an opportunity for individuals to earn additional income through the sharing economy model.

The announcement has generated excitement and enthusiasm, with World Mobile’s CEO expressing enthusiasm about contributing to the advancement of connectivity in Pakistan and leveraging the country’s dynamic and expanding economy. By addressing the affordability and accessibility challenges, World Mobile aims to play a significant role in closing the connectivity gap and supporting Pakistan’s development targets.

More information on the first rollout location can be found here, via World Mobile Twitter.

World Mobile Global App

Global App preview, AirNode Sales UX sneek peak plus more!

In a recent World Mobile Twitter Space on March 21st 2023, the team gave us our first look at the Global Mobile App (which is apparently coming very soon). The big highlight was not only the integrated $WMT and $ADA wallet, but the ability to purchase & sell $WMT via a built-in fiat on-ramp and off-ramp. Details of how this will work are yet to be shared but having the ability to purchase crypto via the app will open up the token to a much wider audience. The team also announced that several other ‘value added services’ will be integrated into the app.

Next on the agenda was WorldMobile’s update to WMTscan.com. Previously we could only see the number of AirNodes and their locations but now users can view the ‘Top 5’ AirNodes by revenue which show the estimated monthly earnings for the host. What’s also interesting to see are the DIDs (Decentralized identifiers) linked to these Top 5 earning AirNodes, something that World Mobile have been determined on bringing to the WM ecosystem since day one.

The update also gave us our first look at the AirNode Sales UX (Screenshots are for illustration only. Final designs subject to change). The new platform will allow the purchase of AirNodes around the world where anyone can start earning in the World Mobile economy. If you’re interested in owning an AirNode you can still register for early whitelist access to be one of the first AirNode owners – https://join.worldmobile.io.

Last but not least, we got to see a full World Mobile demo network up & running in New Hampshire, U.S.A, showcasing working Aerostat & Airnode connections with a Mobile Phone. This is just another step forward in the launch of the World Mobile network!

World Mobile sees first paying B2C customers via its Mobile App

On February 17th, World Mobile announced the onboarding of their first paying B2C customers along with the official release of the World Mobile Android application.

This follows several weeks of testing with local activators who were on-site to provide customers with an overview of the app, walk them through the Data Bundle purchasing process, and provide any further assistance if needed. After successful testing, the app has now been officially rolled-out in Zanzibar.

The team also showcased the Data Bundles available via the app. These are available for purchase directly with mobile money, or through the purchase of airtime vouchers in local stores. Affordable solutions on offer include 30-day bundles for travellers, plus 90-day expiry bundles for long-term users.

In addition, the app will allow network users to manage their data bundles and credit balance. The credits you see as ‘WUCTZ’ are ‘World Mobile Utility Credits Tanzania’.

While this credit balance will initially be exchanged for cash, in the future, customers will also be incentivised to earn WUCTZ by further participation in the World Mobile sharing economy.

As per the newly launched World Mobile Tanzania website https://worldmobile.co.tz, the team explain how you can easily get connected when in the region:

Our App is available on all Android phones beginning with 6.0. You can download it free from our World Mobile Network. Once in range you can connect to our World Mobile network. Then, just follow the instructions to download the App.

The website also shows a coverage map of locations where you can connect to the World Mobile network. Currently this includes over 200 AirNodes in Zanzibar City. More details regarding Decentralised Identifiers (DIDs) and the built in mobile wallet will be released shortly.

Public-testnet

Public Testnet “Aya” now live

World Mobile have accelerated the roll out of testnet by onboarding more EarthNode Operators to public testnet “aya_preview_501”. It’s still being deployed in progressive iterations with more and more ENO’s being invited as testing advances.

The current Testnet status includes:

  • EarthNode Non-fungible Tokens (ENNFTs), which can be claimed by the EarthNode Operators and stored in their wallet to allow them to connect to the Aya testnet and register as a validator
  • Installation script that allows our first EarthNode Operators to create their account, set up an EarthNode, connect to the Aya testnet, and register as a validator
  • Basic infrastructure to support rudimental cross-chain interactions
  • Grafana dashboards to allow EarthNode Operators to monitor their EarthNode

A Testnet whitepaper will be available soon and World Mobile will introduce mainnet after the testnet has been proven to be stable and fully functioning.

For more details on the steps of how Earth Node Operators are being onboarded, please see the recent World Mobile blog post “Introducing the Aya testnet“.

endofyear-update

End of Year Twitter Space Update

On Monday 28th November World Mobile held a Twitter Space with Micky Watkins (Mr Telecom), Zac (Head of Token) and Antonio (CTO) to discuss the current status of Earth Nodes and Air Nodes.

Starting off the Space, Micky announced the World Mobile Merch Holidays Collection featuring tshirts, jumpers and Christmas tree ornaments.

Next up were details on the ENNFT for Earth Node Operators. Due to a small issue with Nami Wallet it has been delayed to the beginning of December. The team have also found some small optimizations they want to make so they can be absolutely sure about the security of the smart contract.

Earth Node Rewards Part 2 was also discussed and unfortunately it’s still being worked on and there’s no date yet. The team want to make sure they get it 100% right.

World Mobile have also promised 225 Air Nodes by the end of the year and revenues from these will soon be displayed on WMTscan.

As for Earth Node Testnet, the development team work in 2 week sprints and if all goes well internal testing on the Testnet Candidate will likely begin in the first week of December. Antonio did mention they will choose a select group of Earth Nodes to participate in the early Testnet however we’ve put forward a proposal for Earth Node owners to register their interest in running on Testnet as there are several of us with time & skill who are eager to get testing.

Also mentioned within the Space was the fully autonomous aerostat built by World Mobile, smaller than the one in Zanzibar but with motorised control for stabilization. It’s also much easier to move around and cheaper than the larger aerostat which requires a mooring station. World Mobile will be releasing content soon showcasing its build.

World Mobile are currently working on an advanced 5G fibreglass antenna for rural America. It will have a frequency of 200Mhz and offer speeds of 60Mbps concurrently or 100/20. The aerostat being deployed in Zanzibar uses 4 directional antennas which allows for wide signal distribution but doesn’t have a super long range. It’s also LTE, not 5G, however it will be upgraded later to support 5G connection. World Mobile are just awaiting final sign-off from the Zanzibar Department of Defence before they can launch the Aerostat.

That’s all of the main info from the Twitter Space – Stay tuned for upcoming details around the Earth Node NFT and Testnet!

roadmap

World Mobile Releases Roadmap 2.0

As 2022 begins winding down, World Mobile is ramping up and has released an updated roadmap focusing on the next few quarters. It includes details on the current rollout, the mobile application, plus timeframes on Earth Node and Air Node operations.

More specifically, we’ll see an Earth Node Testnet by end of the year plus distribution of EN NFTs to all Earth Node owners. We’ll then see Mainnet launch in Q1 2023.

As the rollout continues into 2023, World Mobile will have it’s first paying customers in Tanzania which will set the stage to having more paying customers in a second African country. This means a second aerostat launch and implementation of fiat on-ramp via a payment gateway.

World Mobile Token partners with Genius Yield to boost DeFi adoption

World Mobile Token (WMT) has partnered with Cardano-based DeFi protocol Genius Yield to fast-track the adoption of decentralised finance (DeFi) on the Cardano blockchain.

WMT is the utility token build on Cardano that powers the sharing economy of the global World Mobile network. Transactions generated and processed on the World Mobile network earn rewards for stakers and node operators paid in WMT. WMT token holders are able to earn rewards by holding their tokens in a Cardano wallet and staking through the WMT Vault. Holders of WMT can also stake in fixed pools through the Genius DEX’s staking feature.

The partnership will see both companies work together to improve access to financial education and bring practical DeFi use cases to everyday users. World Mobile Token and Genius Yield will support each other’s tokens in their respective protocols, boosting token liquidity and improving interoperability.

As part of this collaboration, World Mobile Token will support Genius Yield’s liquidity pools in the Genius DEX and Smart Liquidity Vault, also known as the Yield Optimizer, which is powered by artificial intelligence and is built on top of the Genius DEX.

Genius Yield will set up and provide early access to the Smart Order Router, an off-chain order matching bot, for WMT and will also operate an EarthNode. EarthNodes are the heartbeat of the World Mobile network, processing and securing transactions on the World Mobile Chain while earning their operators rewards for their role at the core of the WMT ecosystem.

In addition, Genius Yield and World Mobile Token have collaborated to design and mint 2,000 utility NFTs.

The 2,000 NFTs will be distributed as follows:

  • 1,000 NFTs will be airdropped to the World Mobile Token community and EarthNode Operators
  • 1,000 NFTs will be distributed to the Genius Yield community

Holders who opt to stake their NFTs together with WMT via the Genius DEX will receive higher yields. NFT holders will get early access to VIP areas or native World Mobile app features. They will also receive a 25% discount from the one-year-long paid blockchain course offered by Genius Academy from Q2 2023.

Genius Academy equips readers with the necessary toolsets by availing in-depth articles for users to better grasp the increasingly sophisticated and dynamic crypto and DeFi ecosystems. It has partnered with PSL university and onboarded top crypto and blockchain experts to deliver comprehensive, high-quality education on these topics.

Genius Yield and World Mobile Token will also present their projects via a livestream during the first Hackathon for Haskell and Plutus in Latin America (LATAM) held at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN), Argentina. This two-day event will take place from September 3rd to 4th, 2022, and is organized by Ada Solar, a Cardano-based project that uses the potential of solar power to democratize energy, and UTN.

Genius Yield, CardanoFeed.com, AnetaBTC, Tosidrop, and Input-Output Global (IOG), the development team behind the Cardano blockchain, are sponsoring this event.
